2001 Newsletter
We at The ArtSplot would like to express our sincerest thanks to all who support our endeavors and do themselves, as well as help others to, participate in The Arts. As Instructors we completely and thoroughly enjoy our work and consider it a privilege to make Art Enrichment a part of so many peoples lives. All of you fortunate students, please thank your wonderful folks for giving you more art...and parents, please commend yourselves for knowing the place creativity has in human development.
The up and coming young artists who occupy the studio fill the space with ideas, energy, lively conversation, creativity, and productivity at a level that is impressive on its own. They also fill it with coats, boots, backpacks, musical instruments, Skittles, Cheetos, granola bars, pizza sticks, donuts...the place has a great atmosphere! Students are drawing, painting, doing pottery, printmaking and sculpting more and more, and with more and more individualized flair.
As ArtSplot Instructors/Artists we broaden our printmaking, pottery, painting, drawing, and life being lived experiences to share. Whittier and Irving Elementary as well as The Carden School are seeing us weekly again this year. Our third Artist-in-Residency at both Yellowstone School in Mammoth, Wyoming and Springhill Community School took place September 24th to 28th and Tuesdays in October respectively. In Yellowstone for the week we focused on an international theme working with dwellings, Asian compositions, and the local landscape. Springhill School naturally enjoyed their place while we worked outside at the base of Rossıs Peak in the Autumn. LaMotte School received art enrichment from us again as well...taking full advantage of their lovely setting in Bear Canyon. Hawthorne Schools Principal/Classroom Teachers have contracted us to lead six workshops designed to increase/refresh their own capacity to teach art and incorporate it into other curricular areas. We are in turn then teaching in the classrooms. To date we have delved into Abstraction, Negative/Positive Space through branches with acrylic paint and palette knives, and homes in relief printmaking. Wiman School in Livingston and Morning Star are expecting us the first of the year and in the spring.
Adults are enjoying independent study in the studio on Monday a.m.s and After-School Individualized Art Lessons continue to be in full tow. Inquire please.
Tally-ho! Look for information on the summer programs and The Bob Marshall Wilderness Program in July and August for Teens. It Is IT!
Thank you again.
Sincerely, Chelsea Smith and Sean Faris
