Many mini men congregated for no particular reason.
Join us for our annual out of school “Presidents' Day People and Pastry Studies.”

Students ages six and up partake in a field trip from the studio to a local coffee house, sketch on location amidst the camouflage of hot chocolate and pastries, then return to the studio to develop their sketches into significant pieces of artwork. Our Popular “The Art, The Master” focus will include Andy Warhol's multiple color scheme approaches and Wayne Thiebaud's arrangements of cake and pastries

Cost is $50 per day from 9am to 3pm on Presidents Day, Monday, February 20th.

The Missoula Art Museum's auction jury selected Bohemian Waxwings for inclusion in their 40th Benefit Art Auction slated for Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Holiday Inn Downtown at the Park. The jury selected this piece among twenty-five works chosen for the Silent Auction, out of an impressive submission pool of more than 200 artworks. The MAM staff, Board of Directors and Auction Committee delights in presenting this work in this year's auction. The proceedings will be donated entirely to the annual fundraiser, as it sustains MAM's diverse programming.

This year the Auction Exhibition will be featured in the Silver and Shott Galleries on the second floor of the Missoula Art Museum. The exhibit opens Friday, January 6 with an Artist Reception from 5-8 p.m. The exhibition continues through Wednesday, February 1st.

From distracted demonstrations, to of-the-moment renderings, including very carefully laid out artistic expressions, to new works painted over old are the pieces on display here. "The Cabin at Maudlow" and "Waterfall on Panel" are results of a very spontaneous approach that impresses upon my students a "go at it" attitude. "October Elk in Mammoth" is from time to myself in the evenings while on one of my artist-in-residency visits to The Yellowstone School. The florals are for loveliness, the dress form is a grab at subject matter, and the birds in the stairwell are a mixed media expression I often share with my students.

Please take a few moments to observe my artwork, as well as the artwork of several of my senior students ages nine to fourteen at The Daily Coffee Bar on College St. this month.

Yeah!

Pink Flamingos by CJMS seventh grader Ellie McCauley.
Numerous pink flamingos are posing flamboyantly in select Pop Art works created by young students of The ArtSplot Summer Art Enrichment Programs. The pieces are mixed media collages using inks, paints, pastels, and papers. Complicated compositions of negative space amongst curves and twists of necks and legs are created with, of course, hot pinks. These fine art pieces are truly classic and delightfully cheesy. On display through August at the College Street location.

Join us for pastels, painting, printmaking, pottery, mixed-media, and more!

These kids went insane from the mind-boggling majestic beauty of the Madison Buffalo Jump.

Artwork displayed at MacKenzie River Pizza on Main Street June 1st through the month:

Students grades 5th and 6th did contour line drawings of classmates sitting around relaxing while others worked from a bicycle... all in response to the recent bike to work week. These artist-in-residency programs are supported by The Parent Organization and Montana Arts Council.

Thought you'd enjoy seeing some of my latest artistic endeavors. I have sold a few, which is always nice. The red winged black bird was in the Missoula Art Museum's recent annual juried art fundraiser. They average 12" x 16" up to 2' x 3', are mixed mediam, collage, taped off, inked, spray painted, pasteled, drawn, etc. It is an expression I have shared with students in varying degrees over the past few years.

You can now fill out the ArtSplot registration form online. The whole process is painless, we promise, and you'll receive a confirmation e-mail upon completion. You can still mail or drop off downloadable applications to our studios in the Emerson Cultural Center, if you so desire.

The new forms are under the Registration Info tab.

I have an art display going up tomorrow at The Daily Coffee Bar on College Street for the month of January. I have not done a lot of these as I am always so busy teaching! I am really excited about it. The other kudos is that one of the pieces from the “body of work” included has been accepted in to The Missoula Art Museum's 39th Annual Art Auction Benefit happening this month. My “artist's statement” on display at The Daily with my show fully touts the benefits of doing art and the delights of being an art educator in the capacity that I am, as well as an artist. (I see up to 600 students per week at up to fifteen schools throughout the school year). This multimedia style is an expression I have developed over the years. I know that a large number of students recognize these methods through their own experiences with me as their instructor through the ArtSplot.

Please take time to visit The Daily Coffee Bar to view this exhibit!
